About The Opportunity

As we continue to invest in the talent of tomorrow, we now have an exciting opportunity for Apprentice Buyer to join our Procurement team. This is an exciting, progressive opportunity to become a Procurement professional, working within a team of Procurement experts. You will develop and learn a vast range of commercial skills including, supplier management, negotiation, customer service, relationship management, project management skills and commercial awareness. Previous procurement experience is not required, but a proactive, curious, and keen mindset is a must.

You will be required to undertake the Level 4 Commercial Procurement and Supply Apprenticeship, which includes the CIPS (Chartered Institute of Supply Chain) Level 4 Diploma. This is an 18-month apprenticeship.

Responsibilities include;

  • Providing prices for all materials included in project plans and drawings
  • Identifying potential suppliers and new products
  • Contacting a range of suppliers and sub‐contractors to obtain quotations
  • Agreeing delivery times
  • Keeping detailed records and maintaining well‐organised work schedules
  • Assessing the reliability of sub‐contractors and suppliers
  • Dealing effectively with challenges with suppliers and the flow of materials
  • Ensuring compliance with the safety, health and environment requirements of materials and services
  • Providing advice to the project estimator on the predicted cost of individual items
  • Liaising closely with the estimator at the tendering stage to ensure that an accurate project cost is provided
  • Preparing and maintaining cost reports in order to maximise efficiency within the business
  • Negotiating and agreeing the most favourable terms possible with suppliers once a contract has been secured

About You

  • Are passionate about construction and civil engineering
  • Are competent in applying mathematics.
  • Able to build relationships with clients and our teams
  • Have GSCE’s English & Maths at Grade 7 of higher
  • Have an interest in the construction/engineering industry
