Andy joined Careys New Homes in 2016 as Commercial Manager having worked in the construction industry since leaving school in 1982. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying and is responsible for all aspects of cost monitoring, contract management and procurement, overseeing his team of surveyors and buyers.

We’re a supportive team – you often find in the homebuilding industry that people are very competitive, but Careys New Homes is really about collaboration and working together to build great homes for our customers. As a result, I encourage the team to be honest with each other – to identify areas of improvement, but also to make sure that they support each other in growing their skills and capabilities.

I’m particularly keen to develop the less experienced members of our team to achieve best practice in all that we do – I’m a big believer in the Carey Way approach, which is essentially about setting things up the right way and then making incremental improvements on our jobs to be the best that we can be. 

Our customers want good quality homes and we take real pride in handing over the keys and seeing them move into their new home. It’s a great feeling to know that you’ve created that home for a family and that’s only possible thanks to the collaboration of the team.

I think we’re going to see more use of modular building in our industry. I can’t see any way round it, with the skills shortage and the massive oversubscription for UK property. There are so many people looking for homes that we could quadruple our output as an industry and still barely meet the needs of the market. 

We’re investing in our people to make sure they feel valued – I think any company that does anything else is really making a big mistake in this market. We’re investing in our teams to make sure that they’re nurtured and grow with us.
