This week, we caught up with Administration Apprentice, Rochelle Dias, who gave us an insight into her role and responsibilities, and offered her advice to anyone looking to pursue an apprenticeship.

When did you join the Group and what are your responsibilities?

I joined Careys in September 2018 as an Administration Apprentice in the Work Winning team. In this position, my responsibilities include creating and proofreading documents, assisting our proposals manager and bid coordinator with bid/ pre-qualification questionnaire (PQQ) submissions and creating Careys’ CVs for key personnel.

How did you decide on a career in work winning?

Actually, I initially wanted a career in HR, when I applied for my apprenticeship. But, after the assessment day, I got an offer to join the submissions team instead.

I found it exciting and something new. I realised how big a role the submissions team plays in helping the company to win work and build rapport with clients – all whilst demonstrating and maintaining our great company image.

How did you decide on choosing an apprenticeship career path?

I figured that the best way to shape my career would be to study and gain experience at the same time. That’s what led me to apply for apprenticeships.

I applied for three opportunities, and got through with two – one at L&Q and the other at Careys. *Spoiler Alert – I chose Careys!*

What’s your approach to overcoming challenges?

I think the biggest challenge I face is deadlines. Every submission has its own deadline, which can be stressful sometimes. While we try to collate information for the submission in advance, there can be changes in the pricing and planning.

This normally means that we have to go through the documents again, at the final hurdle, to make sure that the correct information is all included in this version. There’s an added tension, at this stage, as these documents go directly to the client.

But then again, challenges make the job interesting, and I personally function better under pressure.

Do you have advice for anyone looking to become an apprentice?

I’d say go for it, because being an apprentice is going to help you in the long run. It’s always good to learn something new, and being able to gain hands-on experience is just a bonus!

Can you summarise the culture at Carey in three words?
