Head of People

For me, leadership is about encouraging and motivating others to be their best at work (which includes talking about what’s going on in life or at home). Coaching is a big part of my role as a leader, and I feel best in myself when I’ve been able to help someone push the boundaries of what they think they’re capable of and watch them develop in their role.

I began my HR career through a self-funded CIPD qualification whilst working as an Operational Manager for HM Revenue and Customs before transitioning to their HR shared services as a HR Manager. I later joined British Gas where I had the opportunity to fine tune my employment law and policy knowledge whilst working with the Operational teams in Scotland and the North England on their people strategy. I also hold a degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology, which as you can probably guess hasn’t been put to the test since graduating!

I joined Careys in 2016 as the HR partner for Scotland and during my time here I am grateful to have been able to progress and develop within the HR function holding roles as HR Business Partner, Head of HR and now as Head of People as a member of the Careys’ Senior Leadership team.

In my role, it is my responsibility to ensure that all our people enjoy their time at work, have the opportunity to develop and that we create the best environment to ensure this happens. It’s important to me that we support our leaders to develop the skills to manage the many diverse teams of people that make up our workforce and that together we truly make Careys a great and inclusive place to work.
