John Carey Jr

Group Deputy Chairman

For my part I try to be as open and honest as I can about what we’re doing and trying to do and to be inclusive towards people at all levels of the Group. A big part of this is being approachable - it's important to me to say hello to people, but also to make sure that I know them as individuals.

I joined my father, John and my two uncles Tom and Pat at the Carey Group in 1980 meaning I have now been with the business for over 40 years. In this time, I have held a number of senior management roles across the Group including civil engineering, demolition, residential and commercial development along with resource recovery.

In 2010 I founded Seneca Resource Recovery as Managing Director, handing over to Kenneth Doran in 2015. I have co-responsibility for the strategic development of the Group and have a particular interest in land and property development.

My main focus is to ensure that the Group continues to operate profitably through sustainable growth and effective management of risks whilst allowing the entrepreneurial family flair to continue, taking new ideas forward and enabling people to grow in the same way. Success for me has always been about sustainability and changing the perceptions of the industry and showing that our Carey Group culture really is quite unique.
