Investing in environmentally friendly vehicles

As part of our on-going efforts to reduce our carbon footprint, Seneca Resource Recovery has recently invested in two new environmentally friendly hooklift vehicles. These specially designed vehicles are capable of meeting London’s newly applied Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) regulations.

In addition, they will enable us to increase the efficiency of our waste collection services from Carey Group projects across the capital.

Transport sector pollution

The road transport sector represents one of the biggest sources of air pollution across the UK – with approximately 34 million vehicles in operation, accounting for 22% of the nation’s carbon dioxide emissions.

Unsurprisingly, automotive air pollution contributes significantly to climate change. It also has substantial negative impacts on the health of humans, animals and local vegetation.

In addition to the effects they have on our air quality, road vehicles also cause substantial noise pollution, such as engine noise, car horns and squeaking brakes.

Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ)

In an attempt to reduce pollution and improve air quality, Transport for London (TFL) has introduced the ULEZ, which covers the same central London area as the already existing Congestion Charge zone. It is in operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

All vehicles that drive within this zone must comply with the ULEZ emissions standards. If not, they are required to pay a daily charge.

Investing in environmentally friendly vehicles

We have added two new hooklift vehicles as replacements for older, less environmentally friendly trucks. As a result, our entire Seneca fleet now meets the Euro 6 emission standard, and can operate seamlessly within the ULEZ.

Our investment in these sustainable vehicles demonstrates not only the strength of our robust self-delivery model, but also our firm and enduring commitment to safeguarding the environment.
