HMP Rye Hill

A large-scale expansion programme creating 462 modern residential cells at the fully operational Category B HMP Rye Hill. The scope included the enabling and groundworks packages ahead of the main build, specifically site clearance, earthworks, utilities, drainage, concrete foundations, haul roads, car parking and soft landscaping.

The works were successfully delivered to programme in a high-security and restrictive environment.

  • Site set up, utility scanning, and establishment of site compound including tarmac haul roads, car parking,
    street lighting, and road signage.
  • Site clearance and earthworks.
  • Installation of utilities including HV, LV and potable water connections, ducts, and a sprinkler base.
  • Main drainage runs and installation of deep drainage, attenuation tanks, and swales.
  • Reinforced concrete foundations and slabs for precast house blocks.
  • Finishing works including kerbs, channel and slot drainage, tarmac, and soft landscaping.
  • Challenging high security environment necessitating extensive engagement with G4S to develop efficient methods without affecting the day-to-day operation of the prison.
  • Regular collaborative logistics planning meetings to proactively arrange all deliveries into site and waste removal from site.
  • Security checks and vetting on all personnel and delivery drivers.
  • Adjustments to delivery standards, processes and ways of working to meet the stringent security protocols required by the prison.
  • Daily searches including physical, vehicle and tool/ equipment check-in and out.
  • Prison escort for personnel at all times.
  • Programme management accounting for prison operations, requirements for personnel escorts, and lockdown procedures.
  • Proactive implementation of contingency plans accounting for the prison environment including a bespoke system for inventory (check-in/check-out) of tools, and procedures in the event of any emergencies, disruptions or deviations to planned operations.
