Over 300 suppliers, clients and employees attended to watch members from various UK clubs – as well as a club that travelled all the way from Rome, Italy – take to the ring for six rounds of boxing entertainment.

Boxing offers opportunities

The boxing bouts were organised by Michael Helliet, from the Mayfair Sporting Club. He spoke about the importance of the evening for many of the young participants, saying

This was a major event in the boxers’ lives. I remember boxing at Café Royal when I was about 20 years old, and it was totally amazing. So, I love that I have helped bring this experience to other people. All the boxers were talking about what an amazing experience it was. Events like this make a massive difference to them. It is very important to me that they have this, as it encourages them to keep working at their boxing rather than loitering in the streets and getting into trouble!

Professional boxers Philip Bowes, Current Commonwealth Champion, and Wayne Alexander, Former British, Commonwealth and European Super-Welterweight Champion were also in attendance on the evening.

Highlighting the impact that Careys Foundation makes on local communities

The event featured a raffle and silent auction, with a range of fantastic lots to bid on. These included:

  • Ascot Racecourse and Wembley Stadium hospitality experiences
  • Club level tickets to premiership football matches
  • Spa breaks
  • Hotel stays
  • Signed merchandise from the likes of Christiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane and Noel and Liam Gallagher

Jason Carey, joint Interim CEO of the Carey Group, gave a speech highlighting the involvement and impact of Careys Foundation on our local communities. This was followed by a video, which told the story of the long-lasting relationship that Careys Foundation has established with the Seagrove family, whose son sadly passed away in 2016.

A successful evening

Thanks to the support and generosity of those who attended this event, we were able to raise £50,000. This amount was matched by Carey Group founders, John, Tom and Pat Carey, to bring the total charitable contribution raised on this evening to £100,000.

This was a great and fitting result to celebrate our 50 years in business and our ongoing dedication to honouring and supporting the communities in which we work! All of the funds raised from this event will be donated to our five chosen charities.
