Volunteers' Week 2018

It was fantastic to see employees giving back to local communities, lending a helping hand by spending time with the elderly, supporting emerging talent and providing refuge and warmth for the homeless and people in need.

Take a look below to find out more about their experiences:

Rubens House – Geoff, Brian, Emma, David, Claire, Eren, Djemal, Mayuri, Sara, Joanne, Lucian, Daniel, Ian and Syeka

Rubens House is a Jewish care home for the elderly and patients with dementia. A team of Careys employees spent the day tidying up the garden, planting flowers, having a sing-song and socialising with the residents.

I think I can speak for everyone when I say that it was heart-warming, inspiring and insightful. We loved spending time with the team at Ruben's House and listening to their stories.
Emma
I think we all had a great day chatting and helping the residents plant a few flowers and even sing a few songs. We were made to feel welcome and encouraged to join in on all the activities.

Arts for All – Anne

Arts for All is a community centre who run creative clubs for adults and children who face disadvantages such as unemployment, poverty, families challenges and disability. Anne helped with the adult group who listened to music whilst working on their art projects.

The experience touched me deeply, to see the kindness and encouragement to those who attend the group really moved me.

Acton Homeless Concern – Ana, Louise and Kathelijne

Acton Homeless Concern provide support for those who are homeless or inadequately housed. Through the charity, vulnerable people have a safe place to rest where they can find food, clothing, counselling and friendship. On the day, the team helped to prepare and serve meals for over 140 guests.

What an experience! Definitely a good choice for anyone who hasn’t yet used up their volunteering day this year.
