Bullring Shopping Centre

Our works at the Bullring Shopping Centre focused on extensive remodelling requirements for existing units to be converted into a Victoria’s Secret, River Island and Topshop. The announcement of the stores was highly anticipated and would help boost The Bullring’s presence with the instalment of the prestigious high end retailers.

The works entailed soft strip, structural alterations, enabling and temporary works, builders works, M&E Service diversion works. Openings were created within the floors to allow for new stairwell installations within each unit to create new access from the lower levels including structural alterations to accommodate the openings.

Service diversions were critical as the shopping centre and all adjoining retailers remained live during the works. All units were soft stripped in their entirety back to shell and core to allow for the restructure of the proposed layouts and services modified in line with the proposals.

Builders works incorporated formation of new stud walls, alterations to the layouts and the fit out of the new furnishes to the store. Temporary works included hoarding to the shop fronts for public segregation and scaffolding for shop front façade alterations works.

The main challenge faced during the project was that all works were delivered in a fully operational live shopping centre. To ensure that disruption to other retail units and the general public was minimised, we implemented robust noise and vibration monitoring and operated 24 hour shifts to maintain working programme.

General works progressed throughout the day and all noisy works were scheduled for out of hours working once The Bullring had closed for the day. This method incorporated careful planning to ensure that works carried out during the day or night were done in preparation for the following days planned works or did not hinder the working areas.

Housekeeping was maintained to high standards at all times also to ensure public were not affected by the project.

Due to the clients demands of public perception, deadlines were tight due to commitments of opening the stores. We were able to complete all works on time and to programme, allowing the retailers to hit their target dates of opening the new stores to the public.
