GlaxoSmithKline

Careys were awarded the design and build package for the hard and soft landscaping at Ware, consisting of block paved and modular flag stone footways around the newly constructed building 9 laboratory. Initially Careys carried out the bulk excavation and created a piling mat.

Client

GlaxoSmithKline

Location

Ware

Principal Contractor

Careys

Modern multi-storey building with grey and dark blue exterior cladding, elevated on concrete base with rock retaining wall.

The scope of works included the relocation of existing buildings and facilities, extensive service diversions, remodelling of adjacent buildings, installation of new security fence and construction of an offsite compound. Access and site roads and demolition of existing structures was also carried out.

Particular challenges were to undertake works without any disruption of day-to-day functions of this large pharmaceutical premise. Careys also constructed the Green Corridor, a landscaped bund 300m long with a tarmac path throughout and a hardwood timber bridge over a modular flag stone footway.

Mass service diversion was successfully completed with minimal impact on the client. Works were carried out effectively in a highly sensitive and high security environment with tight restrictions on access.
