Margate Dreamland

Careys was contracted to complete a range of landscaping and groundworks that included hard and soft landscaping, installation of utilities and drainage, excavation, and back-filling soil to create a variety of levels across the site. We were also responsible for the overall management of the site.

The 16-acre park contains theme rides, ‘scenic railway’, cafes, restaurants, and a 2,000-person capacity ballroom. In Zone A, known as the ‘Boneyard’, we conducted a survey and redesigned the ground levels on the site. This reduced the requirement for excavation and removing any existing tarmac surfacing. We then restored the existing hard standing before carrying out resurfacing works, and replaced surfaced tree pits with planters, as well as installing corten steel edge restraints to hard paved areas, street furniture and lighting features. In addition, we installed turf, plant beds, hedges and trees across the site.

Removal of services and comprehensive landscaping works

Whilst completing some of the early works on site we discovered several services which were not in use, including electrical and communication connections, CCTV equipment, lighting, and WiFi hotspots. We removed these services, and also repaired damage to the drainage network, and extended existing manhole covers to reflect changes in the new ground levels.

Our works in Zones B and C, also known as the refreshment terrace and main attraction area, also comprised extensive works to repair and improve the visual amenity of the site. In total, we repaved 2,500m2, and laid 15,000m2 of tarmac surfacing, 10,000m2 of Fiberdec surfacing, and 17,000m2 resin bonded surfacing. We landscaped a total of 10,000m2 and laid 11,000m of cabling and drainage.
