We’re passionate about the future pioneers of the construction industry and last month saw Careys Civil Engineering devoting time to develop forthcoming young engineers. Members of the team shared valuable knowledge with university students studying built environment courses at the annual Constructionarium event.

Constructionarium provides a hands-on construction experience for students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a safe, practical environment and construct scaled down versions of iconic structures from around the world.

17 students from Brunel University, 12 students from University of East London and two Graduate Engineers from Atkins worked together to construct a 12m version of The Gherkin and a 1:10 scale version of the Millay Viaduct.

It was great opportunity to see potential future engineers carrying out all aspects of the project including concrete, understanding reinforcement drawings, steel fixing, shuttering, setting out in addition to HSEQT responsibilities, RAMS, daily activity briefings and Toolbox Talks.

We look forward to future Constructionarium events and continuing to support emerging young talent to develop their construction knowledge and insight about the industry.
