Skills Bootcamp at HMP Welland Oaks Welcomes 14 Learners from HMP Sudbury
This programme is about more than skills. It’s about confidence, opportunity and supporting people to build a positive future.
We launched our latest Skills Bootcamp at HMP Welland Oaks, welcoming 14 learners from HMP Sudbury — a Category D open men’s prison that supports adult and young offenders as they prepare for resettlement and the transition back into work.
Delivered in partnership with Wates and the Ministry of Justice, the programme equips participants with essential groundworking skills, creating clear pathways into further training, apprenticeships, and employment within the construction industry.
Over the 12 day programme, learners work through a series of practical and classroom based modules, including:
• Health and safety
• Installing kerbs
• Site ready skills
• Drainage
• Concrete finishing
• Abrasive wheels
On successful completion, each learner receives their CSCS Green Card, supporting their readiness for site based roles.
The session this week focused on providing hands on experience across drainage, modular paving, manual handling, and abrasive wheels. The group showed strong engagement and enthusiasm throughout, building confidence as well as technical capability.
