Careys was awarded a series of specialist work packages over 81 weeks at the Royal Opera House in London’s West End as part of a project to improve access for theatre goers and enhance the existing facilities. The world-famous site began remodelling works in 2014 with the aim of creating a more ‘open’ environment within the building. Our initial works helped to improve the experience by streamlining customer routes through the building by opening the main foyer at ground level and carrying out refurbishment and extension works.

Subsequent contracts awarded for basement extension at Royal Opera House and an alterations package at the Linbury Theatre

Subsequently, we were awarded a basement extension to the main Royal Opera House atrium facade and a soft strip/structural alterations package to the Linbury Theatre and Foyer. These works consist of the introduction of a foul package pumping station to divert existing drainage which will facilitate the construction of a basement. In addition, we will be forming a secant pile wall and capping beam, undertaking a basement dig, installing ground bearing slabs and waterproofing.

Our team then installed a steel transfer truss to enable the removal of existing load bearing columns and allow clear access into the extended basement area, along with all associated builders work. The works to the Linbury Theatre included a soft strip and structural alterations along with the construction of a new recessed orchestra pit which requires the formation of a new waterproof pit with an acoustically isolated slab and walls.
