HMP Fosse Way, Glen Parva

Initially delivering soft landscaping and a new MUGA, a second package awarded at the newly constructed HMP Fosse Way entailed enabling and groundworks. Works were carried out within a live prison environment as the newly opened facility became populated and operational. Operatives were inducted in high level prison security measures and procedures, ensuring safe and secure delivery of the scope.

Principal Contractor

Lendlease

  • Part of the MOJ’s ‘Alliance’ programme, aimed at bringing together four main contractors to share best practice in design, innovation and MMC.
  • Our focus on ECI and expertise in groundworks led the MOJ to suggest Careys as a Tier 2 specialist for subsequent phases of works within the Alliance.
  • During the first package, Lendlease asked us to support their appointed groundworks contractor with dayworks, significantly increasing our contract scope and value. We maintained good relations with the original contractor and mitigated programme delays.
  • The second contract’s scope entailed house block enabling, groundworks, infrastructure, drainage, roadworks and external works.
  • Close partnership working balanced the need for early discussions with the client against a pragmatic approach to intellectual property.
  • Rationalised designs, resulting in savings to landscaping works, sitewide services, and drainage.
  • Client recognition of our ability to resource contracts, work effectively in constrained environments and manage stakeholders.
  • Over 800 cast-in bolts for the substructure delivered with fewer than 0.5% out of tolerance.
  • High water table, running sands and uncharted services all encountered and successfully mitigated without any negative impact to programme.
  • Complied with Lendlease’s mandate to replace diesel in generators with HVO.
  • Safety award received from the client.
