‘Project Jenga’ involved creating a new store for retail giant Next at the Oracle Shopping Centre, Reading. However, this was no ordinary project as it involved the complex removal of a structural core to the building, whilst ensuring its stability.

Kick-starting the careers of emerging talent, last month our Human Resources team held their first Apprentice Assessment day in collaboration with several of our Group departments. On offer were apprenticeship opportunities for business and site administration roles within our Work Winning, Learning & Development and Recruitment teams.

Careys Foundation and Carey Group employees have set their sights on completing the toughest charitable challenge to date. The team will cycle almost the length of the UK, traveling over 900 miles from Wembley to Milton Keynes to Livingston and then finishing in Aberdeen. Employees across the Group’s regional offices will join forces, commencing on Monday 10th September to Friday 14th September.

Scudder Demolition reached a remarkable milestone completing works at the Old Pavilions shopping centre in Birmingham, transforming it into the largest Primark store in Europe and helping to create the ultimate customer experience.

On Saturday 22nd September a dedicated team of 8 employees from Careys Civil Engineering will be tackling the Three Peaks Challenge in aid of MIND, the mental health charity who provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem.

Supporting young emerging boxing talent within the local community, Careys Foundation recently extended their sponsorship of Colchester Amateur Boxing Club (CABC) for a fifth year, with an agreement to continue supporting them for a further three years thereafter.

Over the past year Scudder Demolition have delivered a range of works at Highcross Shopping Centre, Leicester. Living the wider Carey Group values and demonstrating consideration for the local community, the team recently led a series of initiatives ranging from fund raising to community support events.

Building on the success of Careys design and build works at the former House of Fraser in the Highcross Shopping Centre, Leicester, they have been appointed as Principal Contractor for the creation of a new retail unit for Footasylum.

With sustainability an increasingly visible and important issue for the construction industry, many contractors are working to find new solutions to reduce the negative impact on the environment. As specialist subcontractors, Carey Group companies often have limited scope for advising on design or material specifications, but operationally are less constrained in our ability to reduce carbon emissions, water and electricity use.

Careys Foundation’s volunteering initiative provides each Carey Group employee with an opportunity to volunteer for a charity of their choice. Last month employees took on Volunteers' Week where they devoted time towards a range of different charitable causes.
