Utilities:

Our utilities remit involved the installation and commissioning of the new potable water system that supplies each of the residential blocks on behalf of Affinity Water; gas on behalf of Cadent; and UKPN duct installation.

UKPN:
The infrastructure to support UKPN reinforcement works required us to use directional drilling under the existing public highway. This was challenging
due to the close proximity to the entrance to Watford General Hospital. We worked closely with UKPN to procure industry standard ducting, as this differs according to the drilling method used. UKPN supported our role in providing full inspections of our systems along with authorising engineers to sign off the system that supported their new infrastructure.

Self-lay for Affinity Water:
Under a self-lay agreement with Affinity Water, we installed the water system independently. Once we had completed the installation, we transferred control of this utility to Affinity Water. To ensure that we carried out the work to a high standard, using the most correct technique and adhering to the project specification, we liaised closely with Affinity Water throughout the process. This involved our frequently sending images of the installation procedure and pressure testing. We also sent Affinity Water chlorination and sample results upon completion of our works. Our meticulous planning and the excellent quality of the work we carried out was appreciated and recognised by Affinity Water. They fully adopted the water main, with no defects found within the installation.

Gas main installation for Cadent:

Our gas specialist partner Adroit designed, installed and commissioned a new gas main on the main road connecting into the existing live 250mm gas main within the live carriageway. The above image shows the live connection and commissioning of the new infrastructure.

All works were completed in accordance with the relevant IGEM standards, recommendations and current gas industry standards and included:

• Single lane traffic management area and footway closure
  
• Installation by open cut in the footway of a 55m gas main
  
• Installation of 50m gas service
  
• Connection to the existing 250mm PE gas main, including all SCO requirement.
  
• Installation of a suitable transition fitting terminating in the basement
  
• Design, fabrication and installation of a bespoke steel manifold incorporating all blanked ECV’s to accommodate all metering
  
• Installation and commissioning of a single stream 11M RPD meter module with chatterbox
